Designer Salim Asgarally feels that children these days are more creative, brand conscious and fashion-oriented
The concept of painting t-shirts is not unheard of. However, with its new concept of My Cotton World, the Cotton Council International aims to take the same to the next level. On July 15,CCI flagged off the second edition of its pan t-shirt design competition TeeZing in Pune with the ‘My Cotton World’ theme. Well-known designer Salim Asgarally posed as judge for the competition, which had the kids of Smile Foundation giving creativity their best shot.
Sachit Bhatia, senior representative,South Asia,CCI,said the purpose was for them to express what cotton means to them. He says,CCI has based the event on creativity, fashion and fun,and this will also give a boost to cotton. Since cotton has encouraged a lot of fashion creations,we have roped in designers to travel to different cities and encourage children to participate in the competition.
While the kids made interesting designs on the t-shirts,Asgarally seemed pleased by their enthusiasm. He hailed cotton as an all-time favourite for Indian designers. The thing about this fabric is that it isn’t bound by any season, and can be worn at all times, he says.
This competition, which will conclude on July 22 across India, will have three winners who will win cash prizes of Rs 1,00,000,Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000. The best designs will also be retailed by well-known brands. Asgarally, while praising the designs, says,Kids nowadays are very fashion conscious and also very brand oriented.
The ace designer also spoke about his upcoming collection. I am focusing more on lace with a combination of ruche. The trend of lace on outfits is back with a bang, and has been revised and recreated. Among colours, deep shades like the royal blue and dark emerald are my pick, he reveals.
