CTVT’s first round table on training for construction industry

The first ever round table,organised by the Centre for Technology and Vocational and Training (CTVT ) of leading construction industry bodies,training institutes and government agencies for imparting training,train trainers,develop curricula and trade testing procedures for the construction Industry was held in the city recently.

The round table organised by city-based CTVT,a joint venture between Akruti City Limited and Kumar Properties,was inaugurated by State Labour Minister Nawab Malik,Chairman of Akruti City Limited Hemant Shah and Rajas Jain,managing director,Kumar Properties,at the Institution of Engineers. Speaking on the occasion Jain said that the construction sector has 3.2 crores person employed with it and only about 40,000 workers are skill certified and under one lakh are reported to be on the ‘skill category’ of employers’ pay rolls.

This sector has the task of an enormous size while the CIDC is working on it. BAI set up the National Council of Construction Education and Training NCCET. Unique experiments have been reported to be in progress at Nagpur, Bangalore,Cochin,Coimbatore,Erode Vishakapatnam and other places. A skill development council and a skill development corporation have also been created to promote the work with Rs.31 crore initial funds provided for the purpose. The 11th Five Year Plan has proposed setting up 50,000 skill development centers in the country.

He said that one of the main focus of this round table was that the industry,government,trainers and institutions interested in this subject get together,share experiences and think of creating skill development hubs as mother centers. These hubs may impart training,train trainers,develop curricula and trade testing procedures and seek national support for this work.
