Constable dies in road accident

A 33-year-old constable posted at Tardeo police station in Mumbai died after an accident involving his motorcycle and a truck at Ravi Darshan Square,Hadapsar,on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Sandeep Madhukar Bhalekar of Tukai Tekdi in Hadapsar. Senior police inspector Pandharinath Mandhare of Hadapsar police said,“Around 2 pm on Friday afternoon,the bike collided head-on with a truck. Bhalekar suffered serious injuries on various parts of body and succumbed a few hours later. His friend Anil Shinde,who was riding pillion,suffered minor injuries.”

The driver of the truck has been arrested. Bhalekar had been on leave. Hadapsar police and traffic police said they had written to the civic body,seeking measures to avoid mishaps in this accident-prone area. They had sought installation of traffic signals at the square.
