Congress candidate booked for poll code violation

The Pune police have booked a Congress candidate and a former corporator along with their associates for allegedly organising an illegal get together and dinner party on an open ground inside the premises of Vishrantwadi police line for their election campaign in Panel 16,on Monday evening.

The complaint was registered by S-I V T Patil at the Yerawada police station. The suspects include Congress candidate Shital Ajay Sawant who will contest PMC election from Panel 16. Suspects also include her father-in-law Bharat Sawant of Adarsha Nagar,Khadki,a former corporator,husband Ajay Bharat Sawant and brother-in-law Mahendra Bharat Sawant. Police have booked the suspects under Sections 142,143,447 of the IPC and 37 (1)(3) 135 of the Bombay Police Act.

The event was allegedly organised for Shital’s election campaign to attract voters residing in police line. Police raided the spot and seized the generator,lights,chairs,jugs and plates worth Rs 60,600. Police said Congress candidate had also erected a stage on the government land.
