Colouring it Right

Students of Arthi Chitrarangawal Institute are exhibiting 62 rangolis at the Maharashtra Phule Museum.

Students of Arthi Chitrarangawal Institute are exhibiting 62 rangolis at the Maharashtra Phule Museum. Organised by rangoli artist and owner of the institute,Jagdesh Chavan,the event was inaugurated on Sunday by Marathi television artist Spruha Joshi. The annual feature,which is on till Tuesday,has students of the institute replicate works of famous artists using rangoli powder. This year,students have replicated paintings of Dinanath Dalal,SM Pandit,Gowind Bendre,SD Phadinis,Thakur Singh and Raja Ravi Varma. They have also depicted scenes from mythology,present world scenario and everyday household situations in a humorous way.

Art Attack

Grubshup on Law College Road is hosting Mirage,an exhibition of works by Gitanjali Bhawalkar,till May 10. Bhawalkar,a Pune-based IT professional who paints for leisure,is exhibiting paintings that are inspired by temples and sadhus in India. The paintings are in mixed media and reflect the vibrant colours of spiritual India (in the picture).

Music to Relief

Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal (ASPM) organised a classical music fest — Samvedana — to raise money for drought victims in Maharashtra. The festival saw performances by Pandit Ronu Majumdar,Pt Ulhas Kashalkar and Pt Rajan and Pt Sajan Mishra,violin maestro L Subramaniam and Indian classical vocalist Pandita Kishori Amonkar. Held at New English School,Raman Baug Grounds,the money collected will be donated to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The festival was spread over two sessions.
