The students of FLAME welcomed new ones and registered at the oath taking ceremony held recently. Indira Parikh,President addressed the students. Chairman Parag Shah welcomed the students and spoke about well-rounded and holistic education that fosters evolution of new theoretical framework and knowledge and imparts a deep understanding. Parikh administered the Academic oath to students which promised a commitment to do what it takes to change the world for the better. The Deans of the four schools Prof PM Shingi,Prof. Achyut Vaze, Prof. Prasad Vanarase,Prof Himanshoo NavangulBharat Bhushan Verma,Sanjay Dalvi and faculty members of all schools were present for the oath taking ceremony.

Seminar on technology
The Computer Science department of Nowrosjee Wadia College recently organized the annual technology event,TechQriosity. Around 400 students from various colleges and experts from the IT industry interacted during the event. The topics included Green IT,Cloud Computing,Entrepreneurship,Open Source Software and Natural Language processing which were delivered by experts from IT companies like TCS,CDAC and Omniscient Technologies. Speaking on the occasion Shailaja Shirwaikar ,Head Computer Science department said,“Information Technology and communication technology has changed the world in a big way . Internet and web has become the catalyst of this makeover. Internet connects people to communicate resulting into conversation i.e. exchange building of new ideas,to create new products.” Ajit Deshpande from TCS spoke on Open Source Software Development. The lecture highlighted the contributions that can be done by the upcoming aspiring IT professionals towards this area and the R & D around open source development. Ajay Bhargava from TCS gave an informative lecture on Cloud Computing putting an insight types of cloud offering,the current industries adopting to this technology and what the upcoming aspiring IT professionals can do to fly in this cloud.

Foundation day
Shastri Group of Institutes (IIAEIT) that has well established in the fields of aviation,engineering,hospitality and management education celebrated its eighth Foundation Day recently in the city. Present on the occasion were Chief Guest,A K Sheode,Executive Director Air India,S M Vaidya,Vice President,Godrej & Boyce Ltd. and B S Baliga,GM (QCM),Air India. The institute awarded Prof. A S Inamdar,former Principal of Garware College of Science with Excellence in Education Award. Speaking on the occasion Anshul Sharma,Founder & Chairman,Shastri Group of Institutes (IIAEIT) said,“Its been eight years that we have been established and each day and year has been a learning experience,which in turn has helped us to grow and provide better and quality education.”

Testing software skills
IBM has extended collaborations with six engineering and technology colleges across the state establishing a series of IBM Centers of Excellence (COE ) facilitating students to learn new skill sets on the IBM software products – DB2,WebSphere,Lotus,Rational and Tivoli – as well as develop world class solutions. The COE is an outgrowth of IBM’s Academic Initiative which covers 2,000 colleges and universities around the world — a global model committed to drive evolving open standards-based IT skills. The COEs in the city are launched at Singahad Institute of Technology,International Institute of Information Mgmt (I2IT) and Maharashtra Academy of Engineering IBM will provide the colleges with access to technologies relevant to the market and with training faculty. The students can gain first hand experience of the software products that are installed at the campus. IBM is providing the entire software suite free of charge.
