Cold winds from the north are bringing down minimum temperatures in Pune. Over the last week, temperatures have been steadily dropping and on Sunday, the city recorded a low of 12.1 degrees on the Celsius scale, five degrees below normal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that Pune was well into entering winter season.
There is an anti-cyclonic flow and cold air advection from the north. Atmosphere is also dry and there is barely any cloud cover, said Medha Khole, director (weather) IMD.
Khole said that as of now, this kind of weather was expected to last at least 3 to 4 days. The normal minimum temperature for Pune is 17 degrees.
The humidity is also very low, only about 25 per cent or so. This is bringing temperature further down. We are entering winter season and this type of weather is only expected, Khole said.
In comparison to last year,it looks like Pune can expect a more severe winter this time around. Although the designated winter months for Pune are December,January and February, winter has set in a little earlier this year.
