Cognizant win IT cricket championship

Cognizant lifted the Inter IT Cricket Championship trophy after defeating Infosys by eight wickets in the final at the Poona Club Ground here on Sunday.

Infosys won the toss and chose to bat first. They put up a decent total of 159 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

Sutirth Bagchi top-scored with 47 runs off 36 balls,which included seven hits to the fence. Ishu Gupta contributed with a quickfire 32 which included five boundaries and one 6.

For Cognizant,Utkarsh Tiwari was the pick of the bowlers,scalping three wickets for 24 runs in his spell. Gaurav Chutani gave him good support with two wickets of his own.

In reply,Cognizant manages to achieve their target in 14.4 overs and with 8 wickets to spare.

Sunil Patel top-scored with a brilliant innings of 77 runs in 41 balls which included 11 fours and four sixes. Sagar Punjal gave him good support with 49 runs of his own.

The opening partnership between Sunil Patel and Sagar Punjal of 126 in 70 balls set a good foundation for victory. Sunil Patel was adjudged the man of the match.

While Gaurav Chutani of Cognizant was chosen the best bowler,the prize for best batsman of the tournament was given to Sandeep Abhyankar of Infosys. The man of the series award went to Mahesh Bhonsale of Hewlett-Packard.
