Kathak exponent Pandit Birju Maharaj performed at the National School Intensive (NSI) organised by SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth) at the Delhi Public School,Kondhwa,on Sunday evening. This stage boasts of a rich line-up of artistes. As part of the evening programmes that will continue till December 30,artistes Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia,Pandit Rajan and Sajan Mishra,Kalamandalam Gopi,T N Krishnan and others will take to the stage. Classical music lovers will revel in their mastery over music. The first day of the event (December 24) itself set the pace for the following days,as it included renditions by Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt,Ustad Abdul Rashid Khan and various art and craft sessions by noted puppeteer Dadi Padumjee,sculptor Dinkar Thopate and kalamkari expert Gurappa Chetty. The aim of this event is to make students aware of the countrys rich culture. Around 350 students from different schools in the country are a part of NSI. Thirty students from city-based Delhi Public School,Orchid School,Kalmadi High School Aundh and Ganeshnagar,Army Public School,Dehu Road,and Dnyan Prabodhini School,Nigdi,are participating.
