CBI-ACB registers case against HAL official

The anti corruption unit of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI),Pune,has registered a case against K P Rajan,general manager (M&C) of Hindustan Antibiotics Limited (HAL),Pune,for allegedly cheating HAL by fraudulently procuring raw materials from a private supplier M/s Pragati Camp Impex Pvt. Ltd.,Mumbai.

The CBI-ACB team conducted searches at Rajan’s office and residence in Pimpri and also at the office of Pragati Camp Impex at Kandivli,Mumbai on Thursday.

“We have recovered incriminating documents pertaining to the aforesaid procurement as well as those of expenditure and investment in the form of bank accounts,deposits and immovable assets,” said S C Gupta,superintendent of the CBI- ACB,Pune.

“The investigation is on and so far we have not arrested anybody in this case,” Gupta said.

In a press release issued on Thursday,Gupta said that a case was registered against Rajan on Wednesday based on the allegations of conspiring against the HAL by purchasing raw materials through three purchase orders of the period 2007-08 amounting to Rs 75 lakh without approval of competent authority.

The purchase orders were issued after receipt of material on the basis of quotations containing obliteration/alterations received after the closing date for tenders.
