A police inspector and constable of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) landed in the net of Central Bureau of Investigation’s Anti Corruption Bureau (CBI- ACB) for allegedly accepting Rs 25,000 as “hafta” from a travel agent.

The suspects include Inspector B B Sirpor and Constable Santosh Mani, both attached to the crime branch of RPF at the Pune railway station. The action was taken following a complaint lodged by tarvel agent Vinod Kale.

CBI-ACB sleuths produced the suspects before the court on Tuesday. Special Judge S V Yarlagadda remanded the RPF inspector and constable in police custody till April 5.

According to CBI,the suspects had demanded money from the travel agent as “hafta”,threatening to destroy his business if their demand was not met. The travel agent, however, filed a complaint with the CBI-ACB in Pune after which the agency laid a trap and nabbed Mani red-handed while accepting the amount from Kale on the instructions of Sirpor.
