Sixth seed Shivika Burman continued her giant-killing run to make it to the singles final, where she will take on Delhi’s unseeded Likitha Shetty in the women’s national ranking tennis tournament at Deccan Gymkhana.

Sixth seed Shivika Burman continued her giant-killing run to make it to the singles final, where she will take on Delhi’s unseeded Likitha Shetty in the women’s national ranking tennis tournament at Deccan Gymkhana.

Shetty later made it to the doubles final as well, and would be in line for a double crown on Friday.

Burman from Kolkata, who had thrashed second seed Varunya Chandrashekhar in the quarter finals on Wednesday, eased past third seed Megha Sherawat 6-2,6-3 in the semi finals. She was once again powerful from both flanks, making her opponent move from side to side, before hammering the eventual winner.

The other semi final was a battle of two unseeded players. On one side was Gujarat’s Jeni Patel, who had shocked top seed Sayali Bhilare on Wednesday. Patel, however, could not repeat her heroics on Thursday,as Shetty eventually proved a bit too good for her. Shetty prevailed 6-2,6-3 to make it to the final.

The doubles final would also see a battle between an unseeded pair and a seeded team. The unseeded duo of Preethi Ujjini-Vaibhavi Trivedi knocked out third seeds Namita Bal/ Shivika Burman in a tight battle on Thursday. Ujjini-Trivedi won the semi-final encounter 7-6 (5),3-6,10-3. In the final, they would meet fourth seeds Likitha Shetty-Sayali Bhilare. Shetty-Bhilare upset second seeds Varunya Chandrashekhar-Megha Sherawat 6-4,4-6,10-8.
