The 45 bail pleas filed after 29 Urban Land Ceiling (ULC) cases were registered at Swargate police station will be heard on April 16. The suspects in all the bail pleas have been released on interim anticipatory bail. The court of additional sessions judge N K Upasane had deferred hearing last week. The cases were transferred to the state criminal investigation department (CID). On February 22,the HC had transferred the probe to the CBI as the ULC scam involved influential persons,government officials.

Two convicted for cheque bounce

The court of judicial magistrate first class V S Waghmode fined Shraddha Shridhar Gogate of Rs 10 lakh after her cheque issued in the name of Shahir Hemant Mawale bounced. Gogate had borrowed money from Mawale for her husband’s treatment. Mawale had taken loan in his and his relatives’ name to give her money. Gogate had given him Rs 10 lakh cheque of United Western bank,which bounced. After Mawale filed a case in court,she returned Rs 50,000 but failed to repay the remaining amount.

In another case,the court of judicial magistrate first class D B Shelke sentenced Santosh Motwani and fined him Rs 11,676 in a cheque bounce case. Motwani had obtained a personal loan of Rs 33,000 from the HDFC Bank,Law College Road branch,Pune,in August 2007. He was paying an instalment of Rs 1,946 per month but stopped making the payment in between. He later issued a cheque of Rs 5,838 to the bank to clear the dues,but the cheque bounced due to insufficient balance.

Man convicted for killing wife

Additional sessions judge D R Mahajan awarded life imprisonment to Dwarkanath Nivrutti More (42) for setting his wife Kavita (38) on fire. The incident had taken place at Ganj Peth on April 7,2008. The court accepted Kavita’s statement before her death and her letters to her sister mentioning harassment. Kavita and Dwarkanath got married in 1998 and had a son and a daughter.
