International DJ Ashley Wallbridge on the future of Electronic Dance Music in India and his recently-released album.

At the age of 19,he started composing his own music. His discography reads like the ‘who’s who’ list of electronic dance music (EDM) with releases of originals, remixes and collaborations with big names like Ferry Corsten,Gareth Emery,Andy Moor,Markus Schulz and so on. At 24,he has been featured in the recent DJ Mag,the world’s biggest magazine on DJs. Meet Ashley Wallbridge,world-celebrated DJ,in the city as part of his India tour.

Travel in India notwithstanding,Wallbridge feels feels he has a long journey ahead of him when it comes to music. “I think I’m still to establish myself. There are many new DJs on the scene who are extremely talented. Every day is a challenge and I focus on coming up with cutting edge music” he says.

Interestingly,he started DJing even before he was legally allowed in clubs. “I would participate in DJing competitions using a fake ID,” reveals Ashley Wallbridge,a household name for the lovers of EDM.

Very recently,Wallbridge released his debut album ‘The Inner Me’,which has an interesting Indian connection,“I travel a lot and get inspired by various things around me. For instance there is a track called ‘Mumbai Traffic’ in my album. I created this track while I was travelling to the airport for my next event. Incidentally,I missed my flight because of the traffic,” he recalls. The year-long of hard work he invested in the album,he feels,is finally paying off. “It has had an excellent reception and with these tours, especially India,I’m expecting the response to scale bigger and better heights,” he says.

Having performed in Pune in the past,Wallbridge says that the crowd here is intelligent about music. However, amongst all the places where he has performed so far,he regards Guaba Beach in Cyprus and Space in Ibiza as his favourite performance venues. “Having said that,I feel that the size of the club doesn’t really matter but it is the people, the real music lovers who are inside the club, who make the performance unforgettable. If they are buzzing and having a good time then I tend to do so as well,” says the DJ ,adding that the biggest satisfaction is when people accept your music and give you amazing vibes at the show and in India,he has always experienced it.

Talking about EDM and its future in the country,Wallbridge states that the genre has influenced India a lot in the last five years which is why globally renowned DJs are touring India. “The market is growing and so are the fans,” he adds.
