Like in the past when he indulged in Bihar-bashing,Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray on Saturday once again tried to give a regional twist to terror-operative Yasin Bhatkals arrest, blaming Bihar for producing terrorists. However, according to the Union Home Ministry,Bhatkal lived in Nepal for two years and was arrested from the Indo-Nepal border.
There was a time when Bihar had universities like Nalanda that produced illustrious students. Today, what kind of students is it producing? Bhatkal was found there only… I dont want to say that some places are bad, he said.
Thackeray was addressing the students of Fergusson College at the convocation of Jagannath Rathi Vocational Guidance and Training Institute (JRVGTI).
Thackeray, who was asked to speak on design, said,When I was in college,I had a strong desire to become an animator at the Walt Disney studio. I was a student of applied arts at the J J School of Arts. But,I did not complete the course. However,I nursed my hobby. After a while,I started drawing cartoons for the weekly magazine Marmik that was brought out by my uncle Balasaheb Thackeray. Also, for two years, between 1986 to 1988,I freelanced with daily Loksatta drawing cartoons for them, he said, lamenting that of late he did not get enough time to hone his skills.
Since I cant express cartoon ideas on paper, they come out through my speeches… designs are not only limited to jewels and costumes, thoughts also have their design. If your thoughts do not have a proper design, people wont accept them, he added.
While comparing the education system in India and in the West,Thackeray said Indian universities over the centuries had lost the sheen they once had.
Oxford university was established in the 10th century, but Nalanda was there since the 5th century and Takshashila was there much before that. The education system in other countries like Australia promote innovation. This results in the development of the right mindset among children. We lack this approach,as today only those who dont manage to land another job become teachers, Thackeray said.
