Hours after Ajit Pawar pushes for 3 new ones, ‘only one new municipal corporation can be considered for Pune’, says Fadnavis
The CM also said that Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is already existing to take care of the area.

Within hours of Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar expressing his intention to push for three new municipal corporations in Pune, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Friday said that only one can be considered and that too if there is a need for it.
The CM also said that Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is already existing to take care of the area.
Earlier in the day, Ajit Pawar, while taking review of projects in Chakan, said that he will get three new municipal corporations formed for Hinjewadi, Chakan and Phursungi areas in Pune to keep up with the rapid urbanisation of Pune’s suburbs and meet the needs of its citizens.
Fadnavis said, “The Deputy Chief Minister meant that there are already two municipal corporations for Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad and one more is needed. He didn’t mean three more new municipal corporations but only one.”
“The discussion of forming one more municipal corporation in Pune has been going on for long. However, the PMRDA has been formed so whether there is a need to form any new municipal corporation has to be given thought. But considering the rapid urbanisation in Pune suburbs it will have to be considered in the future,” he said.
However, Pawar had said, “There is a need to create a separate municipal corporation for the area covering Uruli Devachi, Phursungi, Loni Kalbhor, and Wagholi. Similarly, a separate municipal corporation is needed for Hinjewadi and surrounding areas, and another for the Chakan area. I will get them done.”
While Hinjewadi, Chakan, and Phursungi fall in rural areas. Hinjewadi is IT hub having Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, Chakan is Automobile hub with MIDC while area around Phursungi is emerging as commercial hub. There is rapid urbanisation in these areas.
“Once these regions are upgraded to municipal corporations, more infrastructure works can be carried out and the narrow roads can be widened to tackle congestion,” Pawar had said.
