Ashish Pareek,a 26-year-old computer engineer, working as a lecturer in a private engineering college in the city for the last two years ago,has been selected for Indian Military Academy (IMA) course,Dehradun, under the technical graduate course (TGC) scheme.

He will join IMA on July 16 where he will receive one-year training after which he will be commissioned as lieutenant in the Armed Forces.

Ashish hails from a small village called Chhawasari in Rajasthan. He did his schooling in Uttar Pradesh’s Renusagar town as his family had shifted to UP where his father was working, who is assistant manager in Hindalco Industries. He completed his engineering degree from Ambejogai College of Engineering in 2006.

“ I was firm on joining Armed Forces since childhood. I appeared for NDA entrance test twice after class 12,but did not succeed. I then decided to pursue engineering. When I was in college,I used to interact with my seniors who showed interest in joining Armed Forces through university entry scheme. I used to study with them,” said Ashish.

Ashish came to Pune after getting engineering degree in search of a job. “I could not find a job in IT company owing to recession. I applied for lecturer’s post in a private college and got the job. However,I was also trying for entry into Armed Forces. My parents also supported me a lot,” he said.

Ashish joined Apex Careers for SSB interview as he failed twice to get through university entry scheme. “Ashish was trained in communication skills and other aspects required for SSB interview for a month in Apex Careers,” said Lt Col Pradeep Brahmankar, director, Apex Careers.

“When I got selected to IMA through TGC,I decided to leave the lecturer’s job. I know teacher’s job is a safe job,but I always wanted adventures and new challenges, which is there in Armed Forces. However,I must also admit that teacher’s job helped me groom for selection in Armed Forces,” said Ashish.
