ACB arrests policeman for graft

The state Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a policeman for accepting bribe of Rs 2,000 from a couple for verification of their passports.

The state Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a policeman for accepting bribe of Rs 2,000 from a couple for verification of their passports. The suspect has been identified as Nivrutti Eknath Gogawale (50),attached to the Samartha police station.

Sohail Yasin Shaikh (28),a civil contractor from Bhavani Peth,had lodged a complaint in this regard with the ACB’s Pune office.

According to the ACB,Shaikh’s parents were planning a pilgrimage to Haj. The verification of their passports was to be done by the Samartha police. Police naik Gogawale demanded Rs 3,000 from Shaikh for the job.

As Shaikh lodged a complaint against Gogawale on September 14,an ACB team laid a trap and nabbed Gogawale at the Samarath police station around 12.40 pm on Tuesday.
