600 Class XI admissions illegal, alleges NGO

A report detailing “irregularities and lapses” in CAP was submitted to the State Education Department.

The Centralised Admission Process (CAP) carried out for Class XI admissions at junior colleges in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad for academic year 2014-15 is likely to come under the scanner as the System for Correcting Movement (Syscom), an NGO, has accused it of admitting around 600 students illegally.

Addressing mediapersons on Monday, Syscom’s Rajendra Dharankar said a report detailing “irregularities and lapses” in CAP was submitted to the State Education Department. “The State education secretary has taken cognizance of our findings and has asked Commissioner and director-level officials to verify findings in our report. These officials have been asked to send their feedback at the earliest,” he said.

The CAP became online for the first time beginning with the 2014-15 admissions. After three rounds of online admissions, the rest of the process was carried out in an offline manner using ‘table admissions’ at the college level. Alleging irregularities in the offline part of the CAP, Syscom has claimed that around 600 administrations were done “without” considering the merit of the student.
“We have also raised the matter with the Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD), and it has responded to us positively. We have proof with us to substantiate our allegations, “ Dharankar said.

Reacting to this, a senior official from the Deputy Director’s office said, “We have not received a single complaint from any parent or student about illegal admission through the CAP. As far as the Syscom report is concerned, it has pointed out certain lacunae in the admission process. We will send our official remarks to the government in a report soon.”
