Swine flu claimed its fifth victim in the city as 60-year-old Shrirang B Paigude died of the H1N1 virus infection on Monday. He was also a diabetes and hypertension patient. A resident of Maharshi nagar,Paigude developed symptoms of cough and fever on March 15. He was admitted to Poona Hospital when he developed breathlessness and Tamiflu was immediately given.
His throat swab tested positive for H1N1 virus and despite intensified treatment he succumbed,Dr Sham Satpute,Assistant Medical Officer of Health,PMC,said. Two more patients are on ventilator in the PMC area.
These include patients at Prayag and KEM Hospitals while seven patients have been kept in isolation wards. Eight new cases were detected on Monday while nine patients were successfully treated,officials said.
