3 dead in 11th floor cave in

Three construction workers died after an under-construction gallery on the 11th floor of the Crystal Castle,Manas Society,collapsed at Wadgaon Dhayari on Sinhagad Road around 7 pm on Saturday.

Three construction workers died after an under-construction gallery on the 11th floor of the Crystal Castle,Manas Society,collapsed at Wadgaon Dhayari on Sinhagad Road around 7 pm on Saturday. The deceased have been identified as Dnyaneshwar Maruti Waghdole (30),Basavraj Shankar Bansode (26) and Chandrakant Malkappa Madhal (45).

The fire brigade received the information around 7.30 pm. The local residents had also informed the Haveli police. A fire brigade team,led by officers Prabhakar Umratkar and Sunil Gilbile,with three fire tenders and police rushed to the spot.

According to the fire brigade,the wooden base of the under-construction gallery broke suddenly,following which the workers fell down and died on the spot. The local residents,however,called an ambulance and took them to a private hospital. They were declared dead on arrival at the hospital. The bodies were later shifted to the Sassoon Hospital.

A woman on the ground floor,identified as Jamunabai,was also injured in the mishap. The police said the slab had hit her,following which she was admitted to the Sassoon Hospital.

The fire brigade and police team then counted the number of workers at the site to ascertain that no other worker had been injured in the incident. The process of lodging the complaint was on at the Haveli police station till late night. A police team led by inspector Satish Patil is probing the case.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the labour contractor had not taken proper security measures. The police said no security net was in place while the construction of gallery was on.
