The Pune city police arrested three people for allegedly attacking a student preparing for competitive examinations in the early hours of Wednesday.
According to the Vishrambag police, Balaji Yallapa Arote (19), a native of Maharashtra’s Nanded district, shifted to Pune a few months to prepare for competitive examinations. He lives near the Hatti Ganpati temple in Sadashiv Peth and regularly visits a nearby library, they added.
While returning home from the library with his friends Kunal Shewale and Om Bhillare, he was intercepted near Shakti Sports on the Tilak Road around 2 am by three people on a two-wheeler, according to the police. The trio allegedly tried to kill Arote by attacking his head with a koyta, a sharp weapon.
“The complainant was attacked with a sharp weapon. He was not injured in the incident. After receiving information about the incident, we launched a search immediately and arrested the three accused people. Further investigations are on,” said senior police inspector Vitthal Dabade.
The accused have been booked under Indian Penal Code sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 341 (wrongful restraint) as well as sections of the Arms Act.
