22-yr-old held, minor detained for possessing fake currency notes

Police have recovered 398 fake notes of Rs 500 denomination from the suspects.

The Anti-Terrorist Cell (ATC) of the crime branch of Pune city police has nabbed two persons, one of them a minor boy, for possession of fake Indian currency notes (FICN) on Wednesday.

Police have recovered 398 FICN of Rs 500 denomination from the suspects. Acting on a tip-off to inspector Dhananjay Dhumal of ATC, a police team laid a trap and nabbed the suspects under the Shivaji Maharaj bridge near Pune Municipal Corporation on Wednesday evening.

One of the suspects was identified as Faizuddin Ali alias Lalu Taufsar Ali (22), a native of Malda district in West Bengal.

Police also detained his aide who is a teenager boy. Faizuddin was arrested under appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code. His minor accomplice was detained and then shifted to remand home as per the court’s order. The offence in this case has been registered at the Shivajinagar police station.

Police said that they recovered four bundles containing 398 FICN notes along with two cell-phones and Rs 620 in genuine notes.

The investigation team includes inspector Dhumal, sub-inspector Dattatraya Kolhe, assistant sub inspector Dattatraya Garud, Uday More, havaldar Nizam Tamboli, naik Umesh Atole, Suhas Kadam and Amir Chadidar.

Police said that the suspects brought the FICN from racketeers across the India-Bangladesh border. They were planning to circulate the fake currency in the market.

Investigation is on to know how and from where they brought the FICN consignments to Pune and to identify their accomplices.
