2 die in E-way accident

Two including a guard of the Delta Force security agency were killed on the spot in an accident on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway after a speeding truck spiralled out of control at Khopoli exit point around 11.30 pm on Sunday.

Two including a guard of the Delta Force security agency were killed on the spot in an accident on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway after a speeding truck spiralled out of control at Khopoli exit point around 11.30 pm on Sunday.

The deceased have been identified by Khopoli police as Anant Datta Sate (26),a resident Bhatan village in Panvel and Balu Khandagale (38),a resident of Umbraj in Junnar,who was driving the truck. A security guard Dinkar Haribhau Musale sustained severe injuries in the accident.

J N Chavan,sub-inspector with the Khopoli police informed that after a major accident at Khopoli in which eight persons were killed on May 27,the heavy vehicles have were prohibited in Khopoli.

To stop vehicles from entering this patch,the guards of the delta force of Ideal Road Builders (IRB) alongwith policemen were deployed at the Khopoli exit point.

Musale,Sate and the other three policemen identified were deployed at the Khopoli exit point on e-way.

Chavan said,The truck was carrying boxes of chemicals and was going to Mumbai. At the turning point the driver lost control over the vehicle.

Sate died on the spot and Musale was severely injured. After that the truck went on to knock two tempos and then overturned in the roadside pit. Driver Khandagale was killed on the spot,the police said.
