Ashok Choudhary, the former president of Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC), had earlier criticised Delhi Congress leaders for "handling Bihar."

A day after he was sacked as Bihar Congress unit chief, Ashok Choudhary on Wednesday said he did not deserve to be removed in this humiliating manner even as he welcomed the decision. “Party ke nirnay ka swagat karte hain lekin jis tarah se humein apmanit karke nikala gaya hum woh deserve nahi karte,” he told news agency ANI.

All India Congress Committee general secretary Janardan Dwivedi  announced on Tuesday that Choudhary has been relieved of his post with immediate effect. The decision came after senior leaders in Delhi indicated that Choudhary was plotting a split in the legislature party and nudging MLAs and leaders to cross over to the ruling JD(U) of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Earlier in September, Choudhary had hit out at senior leaders in Delhi for “handling Bihar” and “spreading rumours” that he was trying to engineer a split.

On Tuesday, however, Choudhary said he welcomed the decision as a “loyal soldier of the party.”

“I hope my successor will take the party to greater heights…. I will abide by the party decision,” Choudhary told The Indian Express on Tuesday after his removal.

The Congress leader is keeping his cards close to his chest and has not revealed any further plans. “Abhi humara party chorrne ka koi irada nahi hai lekin yeh bhi manzoor nahi hai (For now, I do not have any intentions to quit the party but I do not accept this),” he said today.

Choudhary had been president of Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) for more than four-and-a-half years. He had also been a minister in the Nitish Kumar-led Grand Alliance government. Kaukab Qadri, a long-time Congressman and one of BPCC’s vice-presidents, was reportedly made working president. Former Lok Sabha MP Akhilesh Prasad Singh is considered to be one of the frontrunners for the post of BPCC chief.
