Legislators from Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena on Wednesday alleged that there was a threat by Maoists to kill Shinde during the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government but then CM Uddhav Thackeray refused to provide him Z+ level security.

According to MLA Sanjay Gaikwad, the threat came when Shinde was the guardian minister of Gadchiroli district. “A meeting was convened at the residence of Shambhu Raj Desai where it was decided to provide Z+ security to Shinde ji. But Matoshree (then CM Uddhav) refused it, which means there was a plan to get Shinde out of the way. It was a ploy to finish Shinde,” said Gaikwad.

Confirming the incident, Minister Shambhuraj Desai said, “A meeting was held in the ministry when Eknath Shinde received a second threat in which his family members were also mentioned. It was decided that Eknath Shinde should be given Z+ security and his family Z level security. I was clearly told by Uddhav ji that such security cannot be increased,” said Desai, who was minister of states for home department during the MVA government.
