The Mumbai Police Crime Branch has arrested two history sheeters allegedly working for gangster Guru Satam. Crime Branch officers said the two were in direct contact with Satam and have revealed that he is currently in South Africa.

According to officers, the accused, Vitthal Zendge (42) and Vilas Shirke (42), were last arrested by the RAK Marg police in 1994 and sentenced to imprisonment. They were both released on parole in 2012 and later jumped bail, the police said.

On Wednesday, officers of the Crime Branch Unit IX received a tip-off that the duo would be coming to the Shankar Mart Junction in Dadar to meet associates in connection with an extortion deal. They laid a trap and arrested the two.

“Zendge and Shirke have confessed to having made extortion calls to builders and Bollywood personalities at Satam’s behest. We suspect that they sent the extortion money to South Africa through hawala,” said a Crime Branch officer.

Officers said they also have murder cases registered against them in several police stations across the city.
