Two held for killing woman

A woman was killed allegedly by her brother-in-law following a property dispute in Kurla Kamani on Thursday.

A woman was killed allegedly by her brother-in-law following a property dispute in Kurla Kamani on Thursday. The deceased identified as Shahjahan Hasmi (43) is a resident of Adarsh Society in Sanjay Nagar,Kurla Kamani. The incident took place at Shahjahans house at 10 pm on Thursday.

Shahjahan was home on Thursday when her brother-in-law Abdul Hasmi (26) and his relative Riyaz Hasmi (20) came to her house. They had a verbal argument about the house,which they wanted for themselves. The argument took an ugly turn and they assaulted Shahjahan, an officer said.

In a fit of rage,Abdul and Riyaz then killed Shahjahan. the officer added. Riyaz held Shahjahan from behind,while Abdul took a knife and stabbed her in her stomach. They then escaped, the officer said.

Shahjahans tenant,Habis Ansari (28),a plumber,saw her lying in a pool of blood. We were then called. When Shahjahan was taken to hospital,she was declared dead on arrival. Based on Ansaris statement,we questioned Abdul and Riyaz who confessed to the crime. They were promptly arrested under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC. We have also recovered the knife,which was used in the murder. Further investigations are on, the officer said.
