In January last year,Amit Saigal, the man often regarded the ‘Father of Indian Rock’ passed away while on vacation in Goa. Twenty years ago,at a time when there was barely a music scene to speak of in the country outside of Bollywood save for a handful of Indipop artistes,Saigal started the Rock Street Journal and gave bands a platform they so deserved.

On July 6 this year, the Allahabad-born musician and music promoter would have turned 48,and to celebrate his life and pay their respects,a number of bands and musicians will perform at Blue Frog in Mumbai and Delhi on July 4. Last year too, musicians got together on July 5 in Mumbai and July 6 in Delhi for similar gigs. These gigs, which have been called Fully Funtastic, will feature five acts in each city, this year.

In Mumbai, the fairly diverse line-up features Workshop,a humour metal band from the city fronted by Sahil Makhija; Hipnotribe,a funk fusion band also from Mumbai; ViceVersa,a half-Bangalore,half-Mumbai electronica act; Delhi-based rock band Orange Street; and Mumbai metal act Zygnema. In Delhi, the line-up includes electronica producer Frame/Frame; one half of Midival Punditz,Tapan Raj; drum and bass act Taqreeb and Jayant; and Ez Riser, the solo electronica project of Mumbai-based Sohail Arora.
