Five of the six accused in the TISS American student gang rape case were remanded to judicial custody till May 13 by the Bhoiwada court on Thursday. Their police custody had expired.
While the accused Harshavarshan Yadav,Jaskaran Singh Bhullar alias Karan Singh,Anish Borkataki,Kundanraj Borgonain and Dev Cyrus Colabawala will be produced in court again on May 13,the sixth accused in the case Vinamra Soni,will be produced for the extension of police custody on May 3.
Even as the citizens of Mumbai flocked to polling booths to cast their votes on Thursday,parents of the accused waited expectantly to have a glimpse of their children as they were produced in a holiday court in Bhoiwada on Thursday.
On April 28,the five accused were produced before a magistrate court in Kurla after the completion of their first period of police custody. The police had sought two more days of remand for completing the investigation.
The parents of my clients had not arrived as they are from Assam. The parents of the other accused were present and were also able to have at least a 30-minute conversation with their children, said advocate Arpan Rajput. He also said he was still waiting to get the remand copy.
I will be filing a bail application in the sessions court after reading the remand copy. With five of the accused now in the magisterial custody,the police will have to file the chargesheet within the next three months, said Rajput.
