The Mumbai Police have registered two FIRs on Saturday in connection with objectionable posts on the India-Pakistan tensions on social media.
A college student has been arrested in one case, while in the second, police are trying to trace the accused.
According to police sources, Chunabhatti police on Saturday booked a 20-year-old Sahil Khan from Qureshi Nagar, Kurla, for allegedly posting an objectionable message on May 9 on his Instagram account.
Police registered a suo motu case against Khan and arrested him, said the source.
The post was allegedly circulated to create an atmosphere of fear among the Indian public and to incite an individual to act against the country or to disturb public peace, stated the police hawaldar, who is the complainant in the case.
Khan has been charged under sections 152, 197(2), and 353(1)(e) of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
In the second instance, a 26-year-old cable network businessman from Malad filed a police complaint with the Malwani police on May 9.
According to the FIR, the businessman stated before the police that on Friday night, while scrolling through WhatsApp status of people in his contacts, he came across an objectionable post on Operation Sindoor. The businessman informed the police and filed a complaint against the user.
Police have booked the unknown user of the number under BNS Section 353(2) (making, publishing or circulating any statement or report containing false information).
