State CET cell yet to declare admission process for professional courses

The CET cell on the other hand is still finalising a few technicalities before starting the process. A senior official from the CET cell said, “There are some technicalities underway due to few changes.

Students seeking admission to professional courses such as Engineering, Pharmacy, Law, Architecture, Nursing, among others, are still waiting for their admissions in Maharashtra as the state’s Common Entrance Test (CET) cell has not yet declared the common admission process (CAP).

The CET cell conducted 19 CETs so far for admissions to various professional courses across the state. Over 11 lakh candidates appeared for these exams. The CET cell has already declared results of 12 out of 19 CETs. However, students continue to wait in ambiguity as there is no information on the CAP to be held by CET for admission to all professional courses in the state.

A student who appeared for the MHT-CET — which is the biggest entrance test held by the CET cell for admission to engineering, pharmacy and agriculture courses — said, “The result was declared on June 16. Now we are in July but there is no clarity on admissions yet. Initially the results were grappled with controversy. However, even after that was resolved, there is no information on when the admissions will begin.” A total of 7,25,052 candidates appeared for the MHT-CET.

Students have complained that while the lack of clarity on CAP by the CET cell persists, private universities have already started admissions. One of the students who was waiting for the BMS CAP to start said, “Colleges from the city which are affiliated to private universities have started their admissions. Other traditional degree course admissions are almost over for the commerce stream. However, we are kept waiting, leaving us no option as such to weigh the choices before confirming admissions.”

Pradeep Sawant from Yuva Sena said, “The state government seems to be least bothered about admission to professional courses. All other admissions have started in the state without any confusion. We do not know why CET cell is waiting to start admissions.”

The CET cell on the other hand is still finalising a few technicalities before starting the process. A senior official from the CET cell said, “There are some technicalities underway due to few changes. The cell is working on a war footing to start the CAP for various admissions as soon as possible.”
