The first suburban railway escalator at Thane station suffered a glitch soon after it was thrown open to passengers by guardian minister Ganesh Naik Thursday afternoon.

Flowerpots were put on platforms 3 and 4 and the foot over bridge at the station to welcome guests. The pots were being removed after the inauguration at 12.15 pm when soil from two fell on the escalator.

It took close to 40 minutes to clean the Rs 80-lakh machine.

Later in the evening,services on the up fast line on CR were disrupted after the engine of a Bhusawal-Mumbai passenger train failed near Ghatkopar station at 8.02 pm. Three suburban services to CST were held up due to the incident and up fast services diverted on the slow line,resulting in delays.
