Sr citizen’s murder: 2 detained for questioning

The police are also examining call data records of Ansari’s five cellphones, which the thieves stole.

Nearly a week after a 96-year-old retired postman was found murdered in his home in Nagpada, the police have picked up and are interrogating two suspects. Inquiries with family members and neighbours have not led to any concrete leads, the Nagpada police said. The deceased, Abdul Hameed Jan Mohammad Ansi arlived alone on the second floor of Yakoob Mansion in Nagpada. His son-in-law, Wasif, found him tied to the bed and unconscious early morning on June 28.

A police team found that unidentified assailants had tried to force open a drawer in which Ansari had stored Rs 6 lakh in cash.
“We have detained two people who knew Ansari,” said senior inspector Nandkumar Mhetar.

The police are also examining call data records of Ansari’s five cellphones, which the thieves stole.  Ansari had mostly kept to himself, the police said.
