Shiv Sena-UBT issues show cause notice to Ravindra Waikar, to approach Speaker seeking disqualification

The Sena UBT said the party through its official legal counsel Asim Sarode have issued a notice to Waikar on Friday and the party will also file the disqualification petition against Waikar with Speaker Rahul Narwekar's office.

The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) on Friday issued a show cause notice to MLA Ravindra Waikar, who quit the Sena (UBT) in March this year to join Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, on why he should not be disqualified from the Assembly.

Waikar was recently nominated by Shinde-led Shiv Sena as party’s official candidate for the Mumbai North West Lok Sabha seat. The notice came a day after Waikar said he was implicated in a false case by the agencies in Mumbai and he was left with only two options–either go to jail or join the CM Shinde-led Sena and it was with a heavy heart that he took the decision of switching sides.

“I was already under pressure, but it increased more when my wife’s name was also being embroiled (in the legal case)… Then you had no option but to switch the sides. The situation that destiny brought on me, should not befall on anyone,” Waikar told a regional daily.

Speaking about the notice, the Sena UBT said the party through its official legal counsel Asim Sarode have issued a notice to Waikar on Friday and the party will also file the disqualification petition against Waikar with Speaker Rahul Narwekar’s office.

“Waikar indulged in anti-party activities. When Shinde defected from the party, Waikar remained firm with Uddhav Thackeray (along with 14 other MLAs). But recently he was harassed by the ED, an inquiry was initiated and allegations were levelled on his properties. A situation was created that he and his wife will be put behind the bars.

Hence, after being under the pressure, he had to join the Shinde-led Sena faction.  He was with Uddhav ji till last evening and suddenly next day he joined Shinde Sena,” Sarode told The Indian Express.

Sarode said now Waikar is also contesting elections from Mumbai North West Lok Sabha constituency on behalf of Shinde group without resigning from Sena UBT.

Sarode said that for this reason, a show cause notice has been issued to him on behalf of Sena UBT and an opportunity has been given to him to hear his side as why he should not be disqualified.
