Tejasvee Ghosalkar, appointed as a director of the Mumbai District Central Co-operative Bank (MDCCB), on Saturday rejected speculation questioning her political loyalty. The former Shiv Sena (UBT) BMC corporator said she remained committed to Uddhav Thackeray’s party. Ghosalkar made it clear that any talk of her switching allegiance to the BJP or to Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena were baseless.

Speculation swirled after the bank’s board, chaired by BJP MLC Pravin Darekar, formally announced her appointment as a director on Friday. Darekar is the chairman of the bank.

Ghosalkar, however, emphasised the need to keep politics separate from the cooperative sector. “The cooperative sector operates on principles of unity and service, beyond political affiliations,” she said. “It would be incorrect to interpret my appointment through a political lens.”

Expressing gratitude for her appointment, Ghosalkar said the post had fallen vacant after the death of her husband, Abhishek Ghosalkar. “About a year ago, my father-in-law and I had approached Darekar. He had assured us to ensure my appointment and I’m thankful he kept his word.”

Ghosalkar reiterated her support for Uddhav and clarified that she has not been approached by the Shinde Sena or BJP to join their party.
