A taxi and a Skoda collided on the Bandra Worli Sea Link Tuesday morning,leaving two dead and two injured,one critically.

A taxi and a Skoda collided on the Bandra Worli Sea Link Tuesday morning,leaving two dead and two injured,one critically.

The Skoda was rushing a 14-year-old to his exams at Bandra Kurla Complex; he died along with the man in the taxi’s passenger seat.

It was 8.15 am,when traffic is usually thin. “The Skoda,speeding from the Worli side,smashed through the divider and collided head-on with the taxi near the Bandra end. Taxi driver Rajkumar Sharma fractured his left arm and passenger M Sitaram (40) died on the way to Bhabha Hospital,” said senior inspector Prakash George of Bandra police.

Ojas Mehta (14) of Walkeshwar died at Lilavati Hospital in the evening. His driver Brijesh Kumar Singh (33) is critical.

ACP (West) Mirza Baig said speeding appeared to have caused the accident. “A speed gun is posted at either end and police patrol the sea link on motorcycles.” A traffic police official said 10 to 12 speedsters are booked on an average day.

At the Bandra police station,Sharma (32) said,“I had picked up my passenger from Andheri East and we headed to Breach Candy. After the Skoda smashed into my taxi,I lost consciousness and later learnt my passenger had died. I have not told my family yet as they might start worrying.”

At Cooper Hospital,Sitaram’s brother M Sundar said,“He was a cashier at Breach Candy Hospital and lived with his wife and three children in Dombivali. He spent Monday night at our uncle’s place in Andheri as he had to reach office early today.”
