(Express photo by Arul Horizon/File)Roping in the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay as third party for quality assurance of the ongoing concretisation works through site inspections, guidance to civic engineers and technical tests, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and IIT Bombay signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday.
Eyeing to complete the first phase of the concretisation project over the next 240 days ending May 2025, the BMC is slated to commence full-fledged work on the ambitious project from October 1. While phase I of the concretisation project encompasses 394 kilometres, the second phase aims to concretise 309 kilometres.
IIT Bombay has been appointed as third party to conduct quality inspection of all the five packages of phase II as well as one package of phase I of the ambitious project. Furthermore, the institution will also be entrusted with guiding civic engineers on the aspects to prevent deterioration of quality as well as fast pace of work.
Besides, according to the civic body, IIT Bombay’s scope of work encompasses preparation of technical audit reports and regular visits to the project site for quality assurance.
