Retd cop held for ‘sexually assaulting’ 9-yr-old girl

Kasturba Marg police arrested a retired police inspector for allegedly sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl. The 68-year-old accused was produced in court on Monday and remanded to police custody till Wednesday.

According to police, the victim is a student of Class 3 and lives in the northern suburbs with her parents. The incident occurred on Sunday around 7:30 pm when the victim was going home in the lift at her building. The accused allegedly entered the lift too on the ground floor and sexually assaulted her.

The girl said she was scared, but narrated the incident to her mother on reaching home. Her mother immediately approached Kasturba Marg police station and narrated the incident to police personnel. Based on the mother’s statement, the police registered a case against the retired officer under various POCSO sections, including molestation, said a police official.

“The accused retired around ten years ago as a police inspector. We have been investigating the case and scanning through the CCTVs of the building and elevator to corroborate the incident. A medical test was conducted on the victim,” said a senior officer from Kasturba Marg police station.
