Repolling in four polling booths in Mumbai North Central Lok Sabha constituency on Tuesday saw a marginal increase in the voter turnout as compared to the turnout on April 23 when the city went to polls. There was an increase by 0.78 % in the turnout, sources said.
The four polling stations booth numbers 183 and 185 in Kalina and 229 (a) and 232 (a) in Kurla reported a turnout of 35.40% as against 34.62% last week. Of the total 3,370 voters,1,193 people cast their vote on Tuesday as against 1,167 who had voted on April 23.
The re-elections were prompted due to a glitch that had led to the two booths (183 and 185) in Kalina registering an unusually high turnout while (229 (a) and 232 (a)) saw a dismal turnout of 1.1% and 8.43%.
This anomaly was attributed to the voters being listed in the wrong booths.
The inconsistency was corrected and the reelection saw a decent turnout, despite Tuesday being a working day, laying to rest the fears of some political parties that few would cast their votes. However, the marginal increase in turnout would have little impact on the final results in the constituency, feel several parties.
There was not much of a difference in the turnout as compared to the last time, said Returning Officer Mahendra Warbhuwan. Officials added that they had distributed pamphlets to every household that was supposed to participate in the repolls. However, there was confusion in certain cases.
We didnt get any pamphlet. No one told us where we were supposed to vote and I assumed it is the same booth as the last time. It took me two hours to figure out the right booth, said Gangubai Jadhav from Gauri Shankar Nagar who finally cast her vote at the Kurla booth after some local party workers helped her find the right booth.
