Expressing dissatisfaction over the investigation in a case against the builder and chief promoter of the Pali-Pereirawadi redevelopment project in Bandra, the Bombay High Court on Wednesday asked the police to take expeditous steps in the case.

The court had on Monday pulled up the police for not registering an FIR. The court was hearing a petition filed by 44 residents. A Division Bench of Justice Ranjana Desai and Justice Mridula Bhatkar said that people have to file such petition as the police don’t do their work.

Additional public prosecutor Usha Kejriwal said the case was transferred from Bandra to Kherwadi.

Petitioners’ lawyer Rebecca Gonsalves pointed out that the FIR was registered only after the petition was filed in court in December 2009 even though a compliant was lodged as early as October 2008. Gonsalves pointed out that the chief promoter and the builder had submitted 12 forged ration cards that were declared eligible for the scheme. Out of these, three were fictitious, she said.
