Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat on Monday told the legislative assembly that the commission set up to inquire into the Adarsh co-operative housing society scam should have submitted its report by now.

Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat on Monday told the legislative assembly that the commission set up to inquire into the Adarsh co-operative housing society scam should have submitted its report by now.

He was asked about the status of the commission, which was appointed last year to look into the scam. Thorat said the commission was appointed in January this year and began its work in April. He added that the terms of reference for the commission included determining the ownership of the land on which the building came up.

“The commission should have submitted its interim report by now,but have not done so. The ownership of the land is among the terms of reference of the commission,” said Thorat.

He said Income Tax department was conducting an inquiry into the assets of 103 members of the society.

Former chief minister Ashok Chavan and several top IAS and IPS officials have been named in the scam regarding the alleged allotment of flats in the seafacing apartment meant for Kargil war widows. Allegations were made that civilians were included in the society. Thorat informed the House that computerisation and modernisation of land records was underway in the state and related documents would be available on the website soon.
