Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. (File Photo)The ruling government has come under criticism over photos and reels of infamous criminals on government premises alongside top government leaders, with the Opposition alleging the criminals were receiving state protection.
On Tuesday, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut shared a photo of criminal Nilesh Ghaiwal with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and slammed the government for its relations with criminals. This comes a day after a photo of criminal Hemant Dabhekar with MP Shrikant Shinde had been shared on Monday.
“Maharashtra Goonda Raj: A state run by criminals and robbers. who is this man? The Home Minister and the Pune Police Commissioner should disclose the details of this man. Pune used to be the home of culture and education. what is the state of affairs maintained by Modi Shah’s ruling group today,” said Raut in a post on X.
In a move that stepped up the attack, Leader of Opposition and Congress MLA Vijay Wadettiwar on Tuesday shared a social media reel of Ghaiwal inside the Mantralaya premises. “This government has brought achche din for criminals, so much so that they are enjoying the Mantralaya’s air conditioning and openly making reels to glorify themselves,” said Wadettiwar.
He claimed that everyday a new criminal was meeting ministers and proudly sharing photos. “It is clear this government is giving a free hand to criminals and just before the upcoming elections, the criminals are lining up to meet and greet the ruling side,” he said.
The Opposition also launched an attack on the government following the shooting incident at Ulhasnagar’s Hill Line police station, where Kalyan East BJP MLA Ganpat Gaikwad opened fire at Shiv Sena leader Mahesh Gaikwad. The Opposition alleged that CM Shinde and his son Lok Sabha MP Shrikant were encouraging criminals in politics.
On Monday morning, Sanjay Raut had shared a photo of criminal Hemant Dabhekar with Shrikant. The Shinde affiliated Yuva Sena then suspended one of the office bearers who had brought Dabhekar to meet Shinde.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar was also seen in a photograph with Asif Dadhi, an infamous criminal from Pimpri-Chinchwad area. A few days ago, Ajit’s son, Parth Pawar, had met another criminal Gaja Marne and photos of the meeting had gone viral.
Countering Raut, Shinde Sena leader Sheetal Mhatre said Jogeshwari MLA Ravindra Waikar, former Mumbai mayor Kishori Pednekar and Yuva Sena leader Suraj Chavan were seen in photos with all leaders of Raut’s party. “How can these photos be acceptable?” She asked.
