On the Carpet

Using mats for conversations and photographic projections as visual narratives,Delhi-based Raqs Media Collective,known for merging contemporary art with myths,history and research in their works,will open their new exhibition at Boston’s Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. The project titled “The Great Bare Mat and Constellation” is partly supported by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. The exhibition starts on September 20 and is on till January 7,2013. One of the two installations feature the “Great Bare Mat”,a carpet created by weavers of Rodopski Kilim Carpet Factory in Bulgaria,on which the artists who comprise the collective would sit and discuss their work during a residency in the museum in 2010. The second installation is a video projection featuring film stills and photographs of the artists taken during their residency.

Super Cliche

People often don’t see the term cliche positively. Going by that,one can say that this series is a super cliche,” says Delhi-based photographer Amit Pasricha,as he introduces his affordable museum-quality,limited-edition photographic prints on canvas. In the series,the panoramic photographer focuses on the popular icons that “people often tend to shy away from”,such as the monuments in Agra and Rajasthan among others. Titled “Archiva”,the series has 18 prints that are priced from Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000. These are available in Delhi,Alwar,Udaipur and Jaipur. Sixteen works out of the series are on display at Delhi’s India Habitat Centre till September 30. Shot over four years,the photographs have been given a vintage effect so that they resemble works in a museum. The prints are packaged in tubes to serve as gift items.
