In its meeting on August 21,the Mumbai Heritage Conservation Committee (MHCC) formed an expert panel consisting of its members and conservationists to draft a set of rules and regulations for fire safety for heritage structures in the city. “Half a dozen of our members and a few conservation experts are part of the panel that will look into the existing norms for fire safety and recommend rules that are more aligned for heritage buildings,” said V Ranganathan,MHCC chairman.

The panel will specifically focus on the electrical wiring as they are prone to short circuits. “While forming these regulations,we are also going to consider mechanisms and machinery that can enforce these rules. We will submit these recommendations to the state government for approval,” he said.
