The police had registered a case of murder and robbery. While investigating the case, they learnt that the three accused had visited the spot a day before committing the crime to do a recce.
An officer said, “They had come in a taxi and after realising that Madan goes for morning walk at around 6am, they left in another taxi. On Saturday, the three suspects went from Dadar to Bandra and then to Marine Drive.”
Subsequently on Sunday, they reached the spot at around 5.30am in a taxi. They waited outside his house and as soon as Madan opened the door to go for his morning walk, they pushed him inside and barged into the house.
“Their sole motive was to rob the senior citizens,” said an officer adding, “We suspect that some local has given them a tip-off following which a plan was hatched to commit the crime.”
The three accused were then seen stepping outside the building at around 7.20am after which they again took a taxi and went near Dadar railway station after which they went to Bandra and then to Marine Drive. The trio left the taxi at CST railway station.
The police had also brought the taxi driver for questioning to get some clue on the suspects.
“We have learnt they escaped to Pune and we believe that they may have fled to another state from there,” said a police officer adding, “Some of our teams are outside Mumbai and are trying to trace them. We have some leads and we will arrest them soon.”
The police have formed multiple teams to locate the suspects while the crime branch is conducting a parallel probe in the case.
