The wait is almost over. The southwest monsoon will hit the city in two-three days,IMD said Friday,as pre-monsoon showers lashed parts of Mumbai.

The Colaba observatory recorded 32 mm of rain while Santacruz recorded 6.4 mm,even as winds blew at 15-20 kmph Friday afternoon.

“The monsoon has further advanced to parts of north-west and most of north-east Bay of Bengal,parts of Nagaland,Manipur,Meghalaya,Tripura,Arunachal,Assam and sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim,” said Ajay Kumar,director,IMD Mumbai.

“Conditions are favourable for advance of the monsoon to central Arabian Sea,north Arabian Sea,parts of Konkan,central Maharashtra,Marathwada and Vidarbha.”

IMD warned fishermen to stay off seas the next 24 hours. “Once monsoon sets in,wind speeds may rise to 45-50 kmph,” Kumar said.
