MLA Sangle,supporters detained after protest bid

Vikhroli MLA Mangesh Sangle,along with 27 supporters,were detained by the police for attempting to demonstrate on the Eastern Express Highway on Monday.

Vikhroli MLA Mangesh Sangle,along with 27 supporters,were detained by the police for attempting to demonstrate on the Eastern Express Highway on Monday.

They were protesting the stench emanating from the Kanjurmarg dumping ground and demanded immediate closure of the ground. Sangle led around 800 protesters from Kannamwar Nagar in Vikhroli East around 11 am and was heading to the dumping ground. They were detained as they were about to march onto the highway around 1 pm.

“The protestors were burning effigies and wanted to demonstrate on the highway. However,we detained them under Section 69 of the Bombay Police Act. We released them two hours later ,” said senior inspector Mahipat Indalkar.

“We will try to meet Municipal Commissioner Sitaram Kunte this week on the issue,” Sangle said. He also alleged that the dumping ground was illegal.
