Minister finds pothole repair unsatisfactory

Guardian Minister for Mumbai Suburbs Naseem Khan has expressed his dissatisfaction over the work done to fill potholes ahead of the Ganpati festival.

Guardian Minister for Mumbai Suburbs Naseem Khan has expressed his dissatisfaction over the work done to fill potholes ahead of the Ganpati festival.

“The work of filling potholes not up to the mark and not satisfactory,” said Khan after reviewing the work completed ahead of Ganpati immersion days. Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan had directed that potholes should be filled by the start of the Ganpati festival.

Khan said only about 60 per cent of the work has been completed. He said they were looking at stricter vigilance of work being done by contractors to fill the potholes as there were complaints of contractors inflating the figures of potholes filled by them.

“They have been told to expedite the work. We are not satisfied with the work especially after the deadline given by the Chief Minister. We have asked for stricter vigilance of the pothole-filling work as there are complaints that inflated figures are being reported by the contractors,” said Khan.

Senior BMC officials said 53 potholes remained in the island city of Mumbai,85 in Western and 26 in Eastern suburbs. The maximum potholes remained in Malad West.

“Our priority is to clear the Ganpati immersion routes. We hope to fill them by the weekend,” said a civic official.

Khan conducted a four-hour long drive inspecting work on roads and arrangements for immersion in the Eastern and Western suburbs.
