Temperatures in the city increased further on Friday, with Santacruz recording 36.6°C,and Colaba 34.5°C. Day-time temperature in the suburbs went up almost two degrees above Thursday’s 35°C and more than three degrees above the normal of 33.2°C. In the island city it rose to 34.5°C from the previous day’s 32.9°C.

The Met department attributed the rise to clear sky and sea breeze setting in late.

“The sea breeze, which controls maximum temperature in the city, set in late. Thus, maximum temperatures have risen,” said VK Rajeev, director,India Meteorological Department.

The minimum temperature at both locations, though around normal, rose marginally over Thursday, with Colaba recording 26.5°C,up from 25.6 degrees, while Santacruz recorded 24.7°C compared to the previous day’s 23.5°C.

Weathermen expect the day-time temperature to be high in the coming days. “The current trend is expected to continue for a day or two,” said Rajeev.
